Hand-Building w/Clay

  Hand-Building w/Clay

Make something out of nothing when you hand-build with clay.

Currently, hand-building with clay is offered through monthly workshops where aspiring clay artists will learn basic clay hand-building techniques, like slab and coil structure. Check our class offerings for things like mugs, boxes, vases, dishes and more. (During adult workshops, participants will also be exposed to basics of the pottery wheel.)

HOW IT WORKS:

1.  Choose your workshop.

Workshops are currently planned for pieces like mugs, jars, boxes, vases, dishes and more. Check our classes often for your workshop choices. (Once skilled, open studio is an option.)

2. During the workshop.

We will cover all the basics in slab and coil construction when hand-building with clay. We'll also discuss the many conventional and unconventional tools used in shaping your masterpiece.

3. Let it dry and get fired to bisque.

Your piece will need to completely dry before we fire it to bisque. This process takes 10-14 days. After that, you can visit anytime during open studio hours to glaze your creation.

4. Choose your colors and glazes.

We have 100's of colors to chose from with samples to show you exactly what the glaze will look like on your finished piece. (Specialty glazes that include glitter and crystal are available by request, but they do cost extra.)

5. Glaze your masterpiece.

Have a fun and relaxing time painting your one-of-a-kind art work. If you have questions or need help, there will always be at least one art team member in the studio during open hours.

6.  Leave your creation to be fired.

After you finish your masterpiece, we will apply clear glaze (if needed) and then it will visit our kiln and be fired to a glossy glass finish.
